Young entrepreneur Wood turns Sweet B’s into thriving bakery
Bella Wood developed a passion for baking at the age of eight, when she began spending a lot of time in her grandmother’s kitchen. At 16, the young entrepreneur converted that passion into Sweet B’s Bakery and began serving her desserts all across town.
Sweet B’s specializes in various French macarons and other dessert options. In less than two years, Wood and her treats have become a mainstay at Reid’s Orchard, The Cottage, Hayden Farms, and the Owensboro Regional Farmers’ Market.
“I find immense joy in the beauty and creativity that baking and cooking allow me to express,” Wood said. “Each recipe is a canvas, and I love the art of crafting delicious and visually appealing creations.”
Wood said the farmers’ market plays a pivotal role in her success.
“The farmers’ market has been instrumental in my journey, bringing me a wonderful community of customers and friends,” she said. “It has also significantly boosted my visibility and helped establish my name in the local market.”
Wood aspires to open a brick-and-mortar location in Owensboro soon, where locals can enjoy a sweet treat and drink and enjoy themselves.
“My ultimate dream is to own my own bakery,” she said. “I envision a place where I can offer an extensive array of baked goods and beverages, creating a cozy and welcoming environment for all to enjoy.”
Wood earned a spot in The World’s Greatest Baker contest earlier this year. This annual, free-to-enter baking competition brings together amateur and professional bakers worldwide. After multiple rounds of competition, putting her skills to the test on a global stage, she captivated the taste buds and hearts of several spectators.
While she fell just short of the top spot, she was grateful for the experience. She said she returned to the kitchen reinvigorated and motivated to continue perfecting her craft.
Wood graduated from Owensboro Catholic this past spring and will attend the University of Louisville this fall. She consistently strives to be a beacon of kindness in the community. She regularly volunteers at the local animal shelter and donates her time and blood to the Western Kentucky Regional Blood Center.
