On Tuesday evening in Henderson, a bank decided to ‘craft for a cause’.
Independence Bank held a blanket making event, with some special recipients in mind. Officials with the bank tell us the blankets will go to local patients fighting cancer.
Independence Bank Community Enrichment Officer, Kelsey Hargis, says, “Our employees feel very strongly, at Independence Bank, about helping those with cancer, in some way. And, unfortunately, in today’s time, it’s really affected everyone in some capacity.”
Hargis says they’ve been making blankets for local cancer patients nearly a decade. “We do the old-school tie blankets, get those embroidered, put a special note with them, and then we deliver those to the hospital, here locally, and also to customers that we hear about who have been sick, we do some hand-deliveries too.”
Hargis explains that she and other employees try to pick out colorful fabric, to help break up the “sterile, white” treatment rooms in hospitals.
Emotional, Hargis shares, “A customer that we had, she was a lady, unfortunately she ended up passing, but she actually asked to be buried in her blanket at the end of the day, so it’s stories like that that makes all of this worth while, to see that it means so much”.
Hargis tells us they try to make blankets a couple of times each year.
