For fifteen consecutive years, Independence Bank has earned top accolades by American Banker. The Owensboro-based financial institution continues with recognitions as either a Top Performing Bank or a Best Bank to Work For since 2009.

“The Bank has seen tremendous growth over the years,” Chairman Chris Reid reflected. “But, for us, it’s never been about the bottom line. The key factor to our success is our people. We always aim to recruit and hire the best people, motivate them to achieve maximum results and fairly reward them. We trust them, learn from them and help them understand our values as a family- and employee-owned company.”

American Banker Magazine, in its 11th year, releases its 2023 Best Banks to Work For list which includes 90 institutions across the country. Independence Bank is in the top three Kentucky-based banks by securing the 51st spot overall and 13th by asset size of institutions in the $3-10 billion range.

Greg Mullican, Independence Bank’s newly named CEO, shared, “I’ve proudly worked alongside our Bank leaders for more than two decades. I continue to see the compassion poured into our employees, customers and our communities. The future combines our core values as we adapt and accommodate those sharing our success.”

American Banker determines the ranking in collaboration with Best Companies Group. The ranking relies on two sources. The first is a survey that employees of the applicants complete that measures different areas of workplace satisfaction, such as their views on overall engagement, training and development and work environment. The second part is a review of each applicants’ policies and benefits.

“Trust, transparency and leading by example were cited by some of the executives as a priority,” American Banker explained. “Clear communication was also touted as essential as an employer of choice. Generous benefits, especially paid time off to volunteer, was also a common theme. And, of course, a bit of fun was had at many of this year’s winners.”

In 2022, the Bank donated roughly $1.8 million dollars to various projects, programs and invested in important initiatives, which include meeting basic needs and scholarships for area students.

Independence Bank currently employs just under 450 people.
