Derek Miller returns to Independence Bank as McLean County Market President!
Miller, who first started at the Bank in 1995, worked as Vice President Loan Officer and Location Manager. He learned from the very best by training and getting to work alongside the late Mr. Charles Reid, along with current Chairman and CEO Chris Reid. Spanning his seven years of employment, Miller was involved in many marketing and promotional conversations with both men as we, as a Bank, were building our brand and reputation. During this time, Farmer’s and Merchants Bank had just merged with Providence State Bank under the Independence Bank name.
“Derek started his career at the Bank 28 years ago and played a pivotal role in developing our ag lending program,” Independence Bank President Jacob Reid recalled. “As someone who is a leader that stretches beyond McLean County, he is the right fit for this position in many ways. He had the honor of learning directly from both my father and grandfather during his first time here at the Bank; adopting our culture and beliefs which will serve him well in this role today. Derek has continued to stay connected to our organization by serving on the local community board of directors since it began. Even though we’ve grown since he first joined, the core principals of Independence Bank have remained the same. It’s good to have Derek back in a leadership role at the Bank and I know he will prove just as valuable as he always has.”
Miller later pivoted his career to the automotive industry. He joined B.F. Evans Ford in Livermore in 2002 as General Manager and a partner with Lem Evans. Today, Miller remains at the dealership as Dealer Principle. His wife Candace has been with B.F. Evans Ford for eight years and is the General Manager. Their oldest son, Jacob, serves as Service Manager.
“In many ways, I never felt like I left the Bank,” Miller shared. “I knew at the time that the experience I was gaining by being able to work with Chris Reid and Mr. Reid was greater than any formal education or graduate degree I could ever obtain. I admired how much the Reid family cared about everyone associated with the Bank and the communities we were part of. They understood why they were in business, their customers and communities.”
Miller is excited to be able to work in both roles and still serve two organizations that he loves and respects. He is currently a member of Livermore Lions Club, Knights of Columbus and MC Football Boosters. Miller previously served as McLean County Chamber of Commerce President, on Leadership McLean County and the McLean County Schools Mentoring Program.
The McLean County High School graduate went on to earn degrees from Western Kentucky University and Graduate School of Banking Colorado.
He and Candace have four children: Jacob, Matthew, Sarah and Anna. He has enjoyed coaching their youth leagues over the years.
Miller replaces Chad Hall who is now President of Independence Bank in Logan County.
