1 in 8 Kentuckians face hunger insecurity, according to FeedingAmerica.org. This statistic equates to roughly 579,770 people. With community support, Independence Bank helped provide food to those who needed it most.
For its second year, Seniors Feeding Seniors returned to Shelby County – backed by Independence Bank. Students at both Shelby County and Collins High Schools collected non-perishable items.
The community was also asked to contribute to this initiative by donating any of the following items:
Granola / Nutri-Grain Cereal Bars
Peanut Butter / Cheese Crackers
Fruit / Applesauce Cups or Packets
Tear-Open Tuna Packets
Items were collected in spring and delivered to seniors in early May. Donation drop off locations included Shelby County High School, Collins High School and the local Independence Bank location in Shelbyville.
We’re proud to take an active role in caring for our Shelbyville community. Through this year’s donation drive, food was provided to about 50 local homes.
