Independence Bank is proud to partner with the family of a local notable artist to display a collection of unique artwork in September. The paintings from the brush of Mary Louise Willenbrink Schrodt capture the essence of an earlier St. Matthews.
32 of her original oil paintings will be available for viewing which illustrate the Saint Matthews community from the early 1980s era through the late 1990s. The “St. Matthews Series” features architecture and store fronts including the old beloved White Castle and St. Matthews Hardware. Her masterpieces are detailed; some may argue they almost appear to be photos. Schrodt passed away May 15, 2001, leaving the collection to her children; Judy, Mindy and John.
In partnership with Schrodt’s adult children, our St. Matthews location will host Sacred Heart Alumni for a private viewing on Tuesday, September 6th from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. The art will be open to the public beginning September 7th, Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. through September 29th. We invite the community to come take a stroll through time down St. Matthews memory lane.
Not only did Schrodt grow up in St. Matthews, she is a 1947 graduate of Sacred Heart Academy. The photorealist taught art at the school from 1969 to 1974. In addition to all of Mrs. Schrodt’s sisters, she leaves a long legacy of Sacred Heart attendees, including her two daughters, two granddaughters and countless nieces.
Independence Bank is located in St. Matthews at 3901 Shelbyville Road, Louisville, KY 40207. For exhibit details, please contact Cindy Bailey at 502-581-1776 or cbailey@1776bank.com.
